Heavy Equipment Transport System (HETS)

This project will design, build, and deliver three (3) semitrailer prototypes; two for government testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), Maryland and one as a manufacturing standard supporting testing. The prototypes will be capable of hauling a minimum payload of 85 short tons while achieving road permits in Europe at 75 short tons. These semitrailers will couple with a modified M1070A1 tractor and tow a system payload capacity of a minimum of 78.5 short tons. Technical focus areas include payload, turning radius, transportability, loading and unloading operational and disabled vehicles, storage, and curb weight. The focus areas will encompass the quality of the operator and maintenance manuals, the operator training, and the ability to provide logistical support to the system during testing.
