Overview
TARDECs Force Projection Technology business area is interested in enhancing the capabilities for the D7R-II Dozer through an attachment which allow the dozer to sift/screen 90% of explosive hazards 4 cm by 4 cm and larger (including other objects of these dimensions) in dry soil that has been flailed. The attachment prototype shall have the capability to sift/screen material in loose, sandy soil and cohesive soils resulting in clear and widen lanes. Sifting frozen soil is not required. The contractor will need to provide an attachments that mounts to the front of the dozer and covers the full ground width wider than the dozer. The attachment will need to be usable on the US Army’s D7R-II Dozer made by Caterpillar, complete with transport containers. The sifter attachment shall have a collection bin mounted to the left or right side to collect explosive hazards. The bin shall be located so that the operator can see and determine the amount collected from inside the cab. The operator seated in the D7R-II cab shall have the capability to empty the collection bin into a designated ground site and close the debris deposit mechanism. The deposited debris shall be emptied away from the sifter and dozer, so that it does not come in contact with either. The D7RII sifter attachment requires manual control by the dozer operator, however remote control function is desired. The sifter will be evaluated under manual control by the dozer operator, as well as remote control if that function is provided. The success of this program will be determined by how successful the enhancement is proven during route clearance scenarios.
