Overview

The Government is seeking continued development of a virtual model hydrocode which shows the ability to simulate blast and impact on armor and structural materials, such as but not limited to metals, fiber composites, polymers, ceramics, and glasses. The code will be developed to incorporate models for new armor materials through development of material models and derivation of model constants. The code will also be improved for functionality, such as usability, stability, and efficiency. Literature surveys of existing data and physical tests of armor materials will be necessary for derivation of model constants and model validation. The hydrocode that will be developed and delivered through project performance will evaluate the technical feasibility of models to simulate high pressure, high strain rate impact response of armor and structural materials related to the development of military ground vehicles.
