Member Spotlight | 22 August 2022

In an effort to raise awareness to NAMC member capabilities within the consortium, NAMC launched the member spotlight last year, showcasing an organization from the capability areas identified via the GVS OTA.

Moving forward, we will do a standalone company spotlight twice a month. With over 500+ members, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and submit your company's information via the link below. There are a lot of exciting projects this fiscal year, and the spotlights help raise awareness to your company capabilities.

HQ: Austin, TX
Organization Type: Nontraditional small business
Capabilities: Collaborative robotics, autonomation, mobile manipulation

Q: What are your goals as an organization?

A: Apptronik works hard to develop robotics and automation that make people's lives better. Our low power mobile manipulators reduce physical and cognitive loads on soldiers to keep them fresh, uninjured, and in the fight longer and with greater effectiveness. We free up people to perform finesse and creative tasks and let the robots do the monotonous, repetitive, and hazardous ones.

Q: What is something unique about your products?

A: No robots on the market today have the kind of payload-to-weight ratio that Apptronik systems can attain. Our robots allow mobility and safe collaboration with people, owing to how light they are. This one-of-a-kind capability derives from a full rethinking of arm kinematics, amplified with custom control algorithms. These systems add assisted or autonomous manipulation to manned, unmanned, or optionally manned mobility platforms of all types.

Q: How did your organization get started?

A: We spun out from the UT Austin Human Centered Robotics Laboratory. We continue to focus on human-centered, collaborative robotics and automation. Our present CEO is an Air Force brat and our first CEO, present CTO, and R&D Manager are Army veterans, pulling a military sensibility into our company’s DNA and giving our leadership team a gut feel for defense sector needs.
