DASD IP Roundtable Discussion - Auto Industry Overlaps with Defense Industrial Base

Eric Chewning, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Industrial Policy, has requested input from defense industry members regarding the current Section 232 investigation into the auto industry, and potential impacts of any significant overlaps between the defense industrial base suppliers and the commercial auto industry.
The investigation considers whether the decline of domestic automobile and automotive parts production threatens to weaken the internal economy of the United States and harms national security and military readiness. Included in the considerations are reductions in research and development and jobs for skilled workers in connected vehicle systems, autonomous vehicles, fuel cells, electric motors and storage, advanced manufacturing processes, and other cutting-edge technologies.
NDIA will convene a roundtable discussion with Mr. Chewning at our offices on August 23 from 1:00 PM till 3:00 PM to explore with industry the extent of the overlap between the commercial automobile and truck industry and the Defense Industrial Base.
