Member Spotlight | 2 May 2022

In an effort to raise awareness to NAMC member capabilities within the consortium, NAMC launched the member spotlight last year, showcasing an organization from the capability areas identified via the GVS OTA.

Moving forward, we will do a standalone company spotlight twice a month. With over 500+ members, we encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and submit your company's information via the link below. There are a lot of exciting projects this fiscal year, and the spotlights help raise awareness to your company capabilities.

Q: What are your organizational goals?
A: As a software company that partners with customers in the defense industry, Tangram Flex, Inc. (Tangram) focuses on finding new ways to integrate software into mission critical systems, achieve interoperability, and help customers build confidence in the safety, security, and correctness of their systems. Tangram strives to develop solutions that enable the defense industry to meet rapidly changing mission needs and to ease the transition into modular open systems approaches.

Q: What is something unique about your product or service?
A: Tangram uses a Component-Based Software Engineering (CBSE) approach, which overlaps with the Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) process. Our core product, Tangram Pro™, is a CBSE tool which couples software code with system models to shorten the gaps between phases of the engineering lifecycle. This is unique from traditional MBSE and software engineering tools in two ways. First, Tangram Pro is not used to develop or build components, but rather to generate the interfaces that connect components together. It is complementary to widely adopted MBSE tools like CAMEO and Enterprise Architect, adding value to existing engineering processes rather than replacing pre-existing tools. Second, the interface code that Tangram Pro generates is able to include message transforms, enabling components of different standards to be integrated together without making changes to the components themselves. In this way, Tangram Pro can complement and increase the use cases for solutions like STITCHES, enabling users to include transforms they already have in integration code.

Q: What do you consider your organization’s differentiator?
A: Tangram is a product-driven company that provides custom service and expertise in system modernization, integration, assurance, and autonomy. Although Tangram is a young company, the team leverages decades of experience and expertise in software assurance and code generation. Tangram’s product domain is a key differentiator, and perhaps even more so is the company’s diverse skill sets and dedication to working with customers to further refine and apply solutions to solving real-world problems in ways that are accessible, reliable, and repeatable. Tangram is confident that component-based engineering and modular open systems approaches are critical to innovation and modernization in todays’ mission critical systems.
